ABOUT THE PLAY
A fast-paced, screwball comedy set in 1939 Hollywood, Moonlight and Magnolias is based on a real behind-the-scenes event: producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of Gone with the Wind and locked himself, director Victor Fleming, and screenwriter Ben Hecht in his office with only bananas and peanuts until they finish the screenplay—in five days. What follows is a hilarious, chaotic whirlwind of clashing egos, clunky typewriters, and questionable impersonations of Scarlett O’Hara. It’s a love letter to old Hollywood, full of physical comedy, sharp dialogue, and high-stakes absurdity.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN  1 woman | 3 men
Roles are open to actors of all ages; casting will be based on talent and chemistry.
David O. Selznick – The brash, passionate producer behind Gone with the Wind. He’s determined, domineering, and slightly manic, convinced that the success of the film—and possibly the future of cinema—rests on this rewrite.
Ben Hecht – A fast-talking, cynical screenwriter who hasn’t read the novel and isn’t entirely sure what he’s signed up for. His wit is razor-sharp, and his patience wears thin fast.
Victor Fleming – The strong-willed director just pulled off The Wizard of Oz and now must help rewrite Gone with the Wind under ridiculous conditions. He’s equal parts showman and taskmaster.
Miss Poppenghul – Selznick’s loyal, unflappable secretary. She fields calls, delivers snacks, and maintains order while chaos reigns inside the office. A master of deadpan and timing.
